A Short Visit to the Mariposa Musical Museum
The Mariposa Museum in Peterborough has a quite-amazing assortment of musical instruments, ranging from a pump-organ like the one we had when I was a kid to a Chinese one-stringed dulcimer to singing bowls, drums, chimes, kalimbas, rattles, ocarinas, autoharp, mandolin, irish harp... you name it, they've probably got it. I went up there and played around with the instruments on Saturday, collecting some interesting sounds. The collection is designed for use by children, but those of us in our second childhood can find it downright fascinating too. Here are a few pictures and a short sample of some random sounds I collected .
